Covid-19 salon protocols

Hey team,

UPDATE  JUNE 13/23

Here we are still in trying times! Again we want to again thank you all for being there and understanding the current situation we are all in. It’s been truly a challenge navigating daily life, and of course our business lives, and somewhat still is.

For all you new folks to the salon, and current members, its important for us to keep you all in the know of what we are doing at Catz Hair~Lair.  We continue to mitigate first and foremost your safety and security, as well as our own as we work hard to stay open. Again please excuse the length of this letter as we try to educate you as best we can about those policies we are implementing.

Each salon is different, and as such, comes with a set of unique criteria. For the most part criteria already in place and many new, that we have to put in place prior to opening, and adhere to while open. As you are aware, Catz Hair~Lair is an intimate salon space that we love with great passion, which makes us that much more of a tight knit family. We love our conversation, our jokes, our laughter, anger, and tears. Our support and camaraderie and the physical closeness that warms us all. However, this last most cherished aspect is the unfortunate detail we have to sadly alter to meet the requirements and guidelines necessary to welcome you back. The physical distancing…….

We know these changes will be temporary and appear as drastic to start, but as things ease up, this will change back to the much loved way we are with some revisions that may be permanent.

We’ll try to make this as short and sweet as possible, and leave it open for you to ask questions of us at any time.

Hours and Phones; Each of us at Cat’z Hair Lair have our own working hours, and contact details. The salon's main hours are listed below in our footer details.

Contact details are as follows;

Below are the protocols we have in place, and hope you agree to them, if not we wish you all the best in your search for the hairstylist of your choice.

Each of our individual working hours do fluctuate (contact to find out), and we appreciate appointments made in advance , but not always necessary. Our waiting area is small so we ask that you limit the amount of guests you bring with you. Our preference is just for those waiting for their appointment time. We work towards adherence of your appointment time to accommodate all our clients in timely and due manners. That means booking the proper time to get all your services done in that time with no service changes or additions. If you know how long it usually takes to do your hair please state that when booking so we know how long to book you in for. However we do realize that "things" can  come up or change when providing your service, so we ask that you bear with us, as we do for you.

Again our waiting room is small, so we ask that you come on time or shortly before.  Previously our door was locked and opened only to let booked appointments enter. That has since changed, and we welcome you with open arms.

Masks are still being provided (one time use), but we encourage you to bring your own. We provide a disposal service of your PPE provided in a box close to the front door. For the time being we ask that masks continue to be worn at all times during your service.

Sanitizers are at each work space, and we continue to thoroughly sanitized between each client; this includes furniture, and tools. This is a universal practice requirement done anyway. We encourage the use of hand sanitizer after you enter the salon and during your time at the salon.

Capes, and robes will be fresh for each client and also washed at the end of each day. Another universal practice requirement.

Shampoo basins will be treated the same with a sanitizing before and after use. Another universal practice requirement.

During your service we ask that you remain seated unless you require the washroom, which will also be sanitized before and after. If you require anything else during your time, please ask one of us to get it for you. This includes magazines, beverages (not being served), retail items, etc. All items you bring with you, we ask you take with you when you leave. This includes throw away items.

Covid Dance; We will be doing the “Covid Dance” as we avoid too much closeness while moving about the salon. We see this as a learning curve we’ll only get better at as time progresses. Physical distancing……..

Payment processing will be performed at the station or at the front reception desk by your stylist. Cash, card or e-transfer.

OUR OUTDOOR SIGN USED TO READ AS FOLLOWS:

  • If you or anyone you have come in contact with has displayed Covid-19 symptoms, are feeling sick for any reason, or have arrived from outside Canada in the last 14 days, please stay home.

  • A mask that loops around your ears is required to be worn during all services. Please bring your own.

  • 6 person maximum - our waiting area is closed at this time. Please wait outside until you’ve been let in.

  • Please arrive alone and as close to your appointment time as possible.

  • For the foreseeable future, we are taking pre-booked appointments only. Sorry, no walk-ins.

  • Upon entering the salon, please use the provided hand sanitizer, your stylist will notify you when they are ready for you.

  • Only children old enough to come into the shop and receive a haircut on their own can be accommodated at this time.

  • Please respect other people and do your best to maintain 3 meters of physical distance after inside.

This may have all seemed extreme, but again we take all our health and safety serious, with our aim to keep you as up to date as best possible on the practices we’ll be implementing as this situation progresses and changes. All these measures are aspects we already do, but in print, it looks very imposing, but has been second nature to us from the start of our careers.

We ask that you respect these changes, they are not only guidelines, but in most cases requirements developed by us with the help of the CDC, CoV, and Vancouver Coastal Health in order for us to open. This means that random and scheduled checks by these agencies will occur. We stress that any deviations from these guidelines/requirements could result in our closure and your removal from the salon. Again you health and safety are of the utmost importance to us!

** On a side note, many are asking about the “Covid Fee” that many are choosing to implement at beauty salons, aesthetic salons, etc. throughout BC. We do NOT condone this practice at all, and will NOT be asking or charging for such a fee! If you would like to contribute to helping us purchase PPE (personal protective equipment) or sanitizing agents we would be more than gracious. However, to reiterate, we will NOT be asking a “Covid Fee”!!

We look forward to seeing you very soon!!!!
